Ian MacMillan has enjoyed a 47-year professional career in the performing arts. Starting at age 7 in the Golden Age of live television. He did over 100 performances for shows like Playhouse 90 and Hallmark Hall of Fame. He made his professional stage debut at the age of 10, and his film debut came at the age of 16 with the featured role of Danny Harrigan in Up the Down Staircase. Mr. MacMillan has played major classical roles in cities across the USA, Canada, and Europe including Hamlet, Romeo, Henry V, Hotspur, Marc Antony, Mac Beth, Benedict, and Calaban. In the Off Broadway production of Othello he played Cassio, and in Arnold Moss’ Off Broadway production of Richard III he played the title role of Richard the Third. Mr. MacMillan was Lord Byron on Broadway and played in the Public Theater’s production of The War of the Roses at Shakespeare In The Park. His movies include starring roles in The Traitor and The Last Picnic. He has worn many professional hats including producing, directing and playwriting. During the late 60’s and 70’s he worked the avant-garde scene of Off Broadway at Café La Mama, Truck and Warehouse Theater, Bowery Lane, and many more. Mr. MacMillan is the author of Anatomy of Acting and is currently busy at work on a new play, a collection of short stories, and two textbooks. He has produced a significant body of plays including: Fade In- Black Out, Only Angels Have Wings, and The Bleeding Tree, and many more. Mr. MacMillan was a long time student of Sandy Meisner, Robert Modica and Lee Strasberg. He is a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse and A.M.D.A. He holds a B.A. in Dramatic Literature from Pace University. Before leaving Manhattan (He currently resides in Orange County, New York) he taught at the Playwrights Horizon, Circle Rep, and in his own studio. With 20 years teaching experience on both sides of the Atlantic he is considered one of the top five acting and playwriting teachers in the country. He currently teaches classes in acting and playwriting at the Hudson Talent Management in Nyack, New York, and the Rhinebeck Theater, in Rhinebeck, New York. Mr. MacMillan while in New York was one of four primary owers of Gemini Films Ltd. He produced, directed and wrote projects for the film company. He was artistic producer and literary managerof his own regional theatre which was in the TCG guide. He taught there and ran the writers and actors lab as well.
